Classes at The Fluvanna Dog Spot are held by Instructor Ashleigh Morris, who has trained with Animal Behavior Consultant, Cheryl Falkenburry since 2003. The following classes are held at the Fork Union Community Center's Dog Spot. Click on the map and directions link in the left column. NOTE: This is not the same place as Carysbrook but is further down Route 15.

CLASSES

Dogs will be dogs until they are taught how to live in a human world. Classes at the Fluvanna Dog Spot in the Fork Union Community Center teach people to understand and communicate better with the dogs who share their homes. The lessons help the dogs learn to be good canine citizens. Dogs gain confidence as they learn through positive training methods and fun games.

Beginning Classes work on the basics of look, leave it, sit, down, stay, come, and walk on a loose leash as well as behavior issues that may occur in the home. $70/set of classes.


Small Dog Beginning Class Some small dogs are fine in the regular beginning class, but others are a little insecure sitting next to a bouncing lab. The small dog class teaches all the same basics at the Beginning Class but with a size requirement of 35 lbs and under. Small dog issues of housebreaking, jumping, and barking are also discussed. $70/set of classes.


Intermediate Dog Training Class takes your dog's skills to the next level. Longer stays, down, sits, and more distant comes. Your dog will learn to work around more distractions, and work further on accomplishing loose leash walking.Prerequisite: Beginning Manners Class.$70


Confidence Classes help dogs to build their confidence through the use of beginning low-impact agility equipment, labyrinths, and advanced dog training skills. Learning new skills and how to overcome fears helps a dog build confidence and become a better canine citizen in the community. This is a good follow-up class to Beginning Obedience for any dog. Prerequisite: Beginning Manners Class.$70


Canine Good Citizen Prep Class helps dogs to expand their skills learned in beginning class and prepare them for taking the AKC CGC test. The class covers ten skills required in the test to include: sit to greet, grooming, passing other dogs, come, stay, down, and more. More information on where to take the test after preparing for it will be given when class starts. Prerequisite: Beginning Manners Class.$70

Holiday Manners Brush-up (Held in the fall and winter only)

The holidays are fast approaching and with them visits from family and friends. Would you like for your dog to be a part of the celebration without being a pain? Don't shut Fido in the back room, work on his manners instead. The holiday season is a busy time so the class will only be 3 weeks. No pre-requisite. We will use that time to cover:

• Settling/go to your bed
  
• Leave-it
  
• Sitting Politely for Petting
  
• Table Manners
  
• Behavior at the door
  
• Getting your dog to focus on you despite the hustle and bustle
  
  

Cost: $60 for 3 week class

REGISTRATION PROCESS--Must be received no later than two days prior to class starting. Early registration is suggested as classes fill quickly. Sorry no drop-in students accepted.

To register for the class:
1. Fill out the FCPR registration form (link below or found in the back of program guides distributed around town)
2. Fill in the desired class(es)
3. Make out a check to FCPR
4. Mail or bring to FCPR.

Ashleigh will contact you with confirmation of your class spot. The staff at FCPR will not be able to guarantee you a spot in class. They are only a drop off point. If you register for a class that is full, you will be put on a waiting list, and your check will be returned if a spot does not become available. You will be contacted by Ashleigh with your status either way. Your spot in class can only be held once payment has been received. Sorry, no phone or e-mail reservations will be accepted.
